Lightweight Laundry Hamper with Hinged Lid, 47 x 36 x 60 cm

A full hamper of wet towels is the one thing in the house that has to be moved and that nobody volunteers to carry.

What Are the Key Features of This Lightweight 700 g Laundry Basket?

• 700 g before anything goes in: the basket adds almost nothing to what you lift, and its own weight is the only part of the load you get to choose.
• A hinged lid that stays attached: it swings back and never lifts off, so there is no loose lid to put down somewhere and lose behind the door.
• A 47 x 36 cm rectangular opening: flat sides press against a wall and fill a corner properly, where a round tub leaves a crescent of dead space.
• 60 cm tall: measure the clearance under your basin or lowest shelf first. Height, more than capacity, usually decides where a hamper can stand.
• Ventilated body: small holes run through the sides, so air moves through a damp pile and does not seal it in overnight.

Where Can You Use This Laundry Basket?

• A bathroom, standing flat against the wall
• A bedroom corner
• A laundry area, carried to the machine or up to the roof
• Storing blankets and pillows out of season
• Toys and shoes, when it is not holding washing

Why Choose Plastic Over Wicker for a Laundry Basket?

• 700 g empty: wet towels are heavy enough on their own, and a woven hamper this tall starts at a couple of kilos before a sock goes in.
• Lifts one-handed by the rim: your other hand holds the door open, which decides whether the laundry is one trip or two.
• No wicker to snag, no liner to wash: wicker holds damp and smells by the end of a Cairo summer; this takes a bleach wipe and a hose.

Material & Build

• Moulded plastic: takes a wet towel, a bleach wipe and a hose without changing.
• Hinged lid, attached to the body: it swings back and never lifts off.

• 47 x 36 x 60 cm: 60 cm tall on a 47 by 36 cm opening, measured across the top.
• Empty weight: 700 g.
• Capacity: 50 L. A full family wash, or a season of blankets and pillows put away.

Care

• Plastic's weak point is sunlight: left on an exposed roof for years it will craze. Keep it in shade and it will outlast the rest of the bathroom.
